Olive Resource Capital is a publicly listed resource-focused merchant bank and investment company. Our investments are split into three portfolios: Merchant Banking, Quantitative & Hedging. We will take a hands-on approach with the investee companies where warranted.

Derek Macpherson

Mr. Macpherson joined Olive in 2021. He has a Bachelor of Engineering and Management in Materials Science (Metallurgy) from McMaster University and a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business. He was Senior Vice President, Investment Banking at Red Cloud Securities Inc. and prior to that was Vice President, Mining Analyst at Red Cloud. Besides investment banking and research his work at Red Cloud, particularly during its early years, his work included retail and institutional sales, and marketing. Preceding his 5 years at Red Cloud, he worked in mining equity research at both bank-owned and boutique Canadian investment banks, providing him 10 years of capital markets experience. Prior to completing his MBA and joining capital markets he worked for 6 years as a metallurgist. Mr. Macpherson is currently Executive Chairman of West Point Gold Corp. (TSXV:WPG) and Lead Director of Omai Gold Mines Corp. (TSXV:OMG)
Samuel Pelaez

Mr. Pelaez joined Olive in 2021. Mr. Pelaez has dedicated the past decade to financing natural resource projects while serving as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Galileo Global Equity Advisors, and as an analyst at US Global Investors. Mr. Pelaez has been an early investor in numerous resource discoveries and has been an active participant in Canadian resource corporate transactions. Samuel graduated from the Schulich School of Business with Distinction. He also holds a Masters in Finance degree from The University of Cambridge. He was a scholar of the Financial Leaders of Tomorrow Program at the PBOC Graduate School at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Samuel is a CFA charter holder and member of the Toronto CFA Society where he resides. Mr. Pelaez is currently President and CEO of Gossan Resources Ltd.
Carmello Marrelli

Mr. Marelli has been CFO since 2014. He is the Principal of Marrelli Support Services Inc. and DSA Corporate Services Inc. Previously he was a partner with Marrelli & Drake Corporate Services. Mr. Marelli holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Mr. Jeffrey Singer

Mr. Singer, who holds an MBA degree from Harvard Business School, has over 25 years of extensive experience in the asset management industry. Most recently, Mr. Singer occupied the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at Investors Group Inc. in Winnipeg. In addition, he acted as Senior Vice President-Global Equities and Head of Global Research at the Caisse de Depot and also spent 17 years in New York as a portfolio manager with Bernstein Investment Research and Management, a subsidiary of Alliance Bernstein L.P.
Mr. Jacob Willoughby

Mr. Willoughby, holds degrees in Geology and an MBA from the University of Windsor, Ontario. Jacob has over 20 years of experience in mining capital markets having been a published mining analyst at three different Toronto based broker dealers as well as over five years of experience as a consultant to mining companies. Additionally, he has senior corporate management experience at junior mining companies and has previously been a corporate director as well. Jacob is currently a Senior Sales Executive at Insight Capital Partners, a consulting firm that is highly focused on helping small and midcap companies increase liquidity.
